Используя пятый октет (байт) заголовка ячейки ATM, оборудование ATM может проверить наличие ошибок и корректность содержимого заголовка ячейки. Проверка осуществляется с использованием алгоритма CRC, позволяющего исправить ошибку в одном бите заголовка и обнаружить ошибки в большем числе битов.
